Pianist/composer David Cook is based in New York City. Since moving to the city in September 1999, he has enjoyed collaborations in the jazz scene and beyond, working with a wide variety of talented musicians and recording artists.
In 2007 David was selected to represent the United States in the American Music Abroad program with the band Exegesis, sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. State Department. The group traveled to Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait in February and March 2008, giving performances and clinics to audiences across the region.
In New York, David has performed regularly in bands led by bassist
Michael Blanco, saxophonist Bob Reynolds, bassist Nathan Peck, guitarist Chris Bergson and drummer Sunny Jain, and has also performed with Travis Sullivan’s Bjorkestra and the Alan Ferber Nonet. He has played with a number of world-class vocalists, including Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson, Sachal Vasandani, American Idol’s John Stevens, independent artists Shayna Steele, Chester Gregory, Sarah Tolar and Rosey, as well as Broadway stars Billy Porter, Darius DeHaas and Shoshana Bean.
David has also toured with several multi-platinum pop acts, beginning with NSYNC (2000-2002), JC Chasez (2003), American Idol (2004), Disney’s High School Musical (2007) and Natasha Bedingfield (2008).
Others that David has recorded or performed with include Seamus Blake, Dennis Chambers, Matt Clohesy, Quincy Davis, John Ellis, Shane Endsley, Greg Howe, Pete McCann, John O’Gallagher, Rich Perry, Scott Robinson, Jon Wikan, Matt Wilson and Victor Wooten, among others. include the Blue Note, Jazz Standard, Dizzy’s, Symphony Space, 55 Bar, Cornelia Street Café, Joe’s Pub, La Lanterna, Smoke, Irving Plaza, Hammerstein Ballroom, Madison Square Garden and Giants Stadium.
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, David currently resides in Brooklyn.
